THE
TOP 10 INFLUENCES ON THE RUNMASTER'S LIFE
AND HIS TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
The
Runmaster would like to recognize the following people who
have had a significant influence on his Life and his Training
Philosophy.
LIFE
IS TRAINING AND TRAINING IS LIFE -- you know?
Art
"Braveheart" Newton (1883-1958) - One of the great
long distance runners. He wrote four books on training. The Runmaster
learned the value of a good meal during a long run from Art!
Professor
Tim Noakes - University of Cape Town - Sports Medicine. Tim's
book, "Lore of Running" is one of the Runmaster's favourite
references. Go to web site link ...
Christopher
de Beyer - training partner and competitor! The Runmaster
learned the value of a training partner and running buddy from
Chris. "The Dog" would always race him to the next pole!
Stephen
"Stephaan" Abelkop - Buddy and advisor. Stephaan
taught the Runmaster that you may have the greatest dreams in
the world, but you won't achieve them unless you "START".
Gertrude
"Dana" Fergusson - Mother of the Runmaster. The
Runmaster learned the value of moderacy from Dana. "Don't
do too much -- you'll strain yourself!"
Carmen
Robins-Browne - Mother-in-law to the Runmaster. The Runmaster
learned the value of alternative medicine and holism from Carmen.
Robert
"Pop" Bilsland - Grandfather of the Runmaster. The
Runmaster learned the value of listening to your body from Pop.
Pop would eat no skin -- even the skins of peas -- they disagreed
with him and he would painstakingly peel everything!
Denise
Fergusson - Wife and soulmate. The Runmaster learned the value
of focus from Denise. Don't have too many things distracting you.
Claire
& Ally Fergusson - Kids of the Runmaster. The Runmaster
continues to learn all sorts of things from Claire & Ally.
Maybe the most significant is the value of play and imagination.
